by Yejiskitchenstories

These fall-inspired pumpkin black sesame mochi bars are chewy, nutty, and delicious— making them the perfect treat for your Halloween party!

What is mochi?

Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made with glutinous rice flour, sugar, water, and sometimes milk. It’s a sweet and chewy dessert, with so many flavorful variations.

What you’ll need to make these pumpkin black sesame mochi bars:

  • Eggs
  • Glutinous rice flour: Mochiko flour or other brands of glutinous rice flour can be found in Asian markets.
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Black sesame seeds
  • Candy eyeball sprinkles (optional)

How to make this at home:

Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

Grease a 6″x10″ baking dish with spray canola oil or butter. Set this aside.

In a large mixing bowl, add all the ingredients and whisk until just combined or until there are no visible flour lumps.

Transfer the batter to the greased baking dish (the black sesame seeds will naturally float to the top).

Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted.

Remove from oven and allow it to cool for 15 minutes before slicing into 2-inch bars.

Optionally, add candy eye balls sprinkles 🙂 Enjoy!
